Chairman’s Hamper

Created by Berry Place exclusively for Harrods department store, the ‘Chairman’s Hamper’ is the most indulgent hamper in their selection, containing no less than sixty five of the worlds finest foods and spirits hand-picked by Harrods own culinary experts.

Each hamper is handmade from birch plywood with custom real leather accents, and is individually numbered as part of a limited edition. During the hampers development period Harrods were refreshing their corporate colours of Green and Gold so great care was taken to match these new colours as close as possible, while still retaining the intrinsic quality of the materials natural finishes.

Golden birch plywood veneer, dyed leather and solid brass fittings ensured the products heritage was immediately apparent. The entire hamper was first drafted in a CAD program to ensure the fit of its many parts; especially the basket weaved side patterns, the positioning of which were fundamental to its construction. These were completed separately as a ‘loop’ before having their top frame and base attached.

A continuous seamless wrap was achieved by concealing any joins behind the vertical struts. A steam forming / laminating process was employed to fabricate the main plywood frames of the hampers, not only to accommodate their large curves, but also to provide an extremely rigid base structure.

Rather than integrating stock fittings, the handles and straps were specially created from dyed and stitched leather to maintain it’s bespoke nature. The handle sporting a de-bossed Harrods logo, while further laser engraved branding appeared on the inner and outer surfaces of the lid.

Harrods describes the Chairman's Choice as “the king of hampers”, which is no boast considering their contents. Just some items on the menu include - beluga caviar, smoked salmon, truffle ham, Stilton cheese, brie, a 30-year old Macallan single malt, a bottle of Krug champagne, Hennessy cognac, wine Chateau d’Yquem!

At £5000 the hamper was targeted at the executive business market and members of foreign royal families. Upon release at the luxury department store the Chairman’s Choice hamper sold out completely.
