City & Guilds Lion Awards 2017

City & Guilds provides world leading services for educational and commercial training, helping individuals develop their skills and unlock their potential to progress to their chosen career.

The Lion Awards – City & Guilds most prestigious awards, and often referred to as “Oscars of skills education”, serve to inspire those in further education, but also recognise training providers that have “gone the extra mile” to help their students achieve.

On June 15th, the Lion Awards ceremony took place at London’s delightful Kensington Roof Gardens, hosted by City & Guilds own Kirstie Donnelly who was joined by presenter Louise Minchin (BBC breakfast and Celebrity MasterChef).

This year, Berry Place not only supplied the trophies for the sixth consecutive year, in the familiar but substantial guise of digitally printed and engraved acrylic, but was also called upon to recreate the City & Guilds Lion motif as a podium sculpture for the ceremony.

Also constructed from digitally printed acrylic to complement the trophies, the 1.4m tall Lion was assembled from layers of sheet acrylic to give it greater dimension, and to provide discreet support from a hidden aluminium armature.

“I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you. The lion sculpture was absolutely amazing!

The clients at City & Guilds were delighted with it, so much so, they’re all now fighting over whose office it will go in!

Anyway, it was a massive hit and I know you went through several designs to get it looking that beautiful and being actually portable, so thank you”.

Barefoot Wine - Scales of Gra-TOE-tude

This year marks the ninth instalment of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project in the UK, which has seen over six thousand volunteers remove approximately thirteen tonnes of marine litter from fifty-two beaches across the UK – including Brighton, Southend, Whitley Bay and Portobello Beach.

This year Berry Place created oversized scales in collaboration with Mischief PR. The 'Scales of Gra-TOE-tude' were used to weigh the amount of litter collected against its weight in wine.

Several important aspects were taken into consideration when creating the scales. Firstly, we needed to ensure we were using the most environmentally-conscious processes possible, including eco-friendly materials and water-based paints. Secondly, we were aware that the scales would need to potentially stand on an uneven surface - with added weight. Finally, we needed to ensure the scales could be dismantled for easy portability.

Olga Senkina, Barefoot Wine Marketing Director said of the event "we think there’s nothing better than to spread local love and are eager to head to Brighton to help the local community clean up their beach. I am sure the fun competitive element will encourage volunteers to collect even more litter than last year. Of course, we will celebrate the hard work of all the volunteers by raising a toe-st with our Barefoot Wine!"

More than a beach clean these events are about fun and enjoyment, with competitions and a lot of wine!

Toro Rosso Casio Edifice (EQB-500DB): Father’s Day + European Grand Prix Launch

Timed perfectly for Father’s Day and the European Grand Prix, Casio and Formula One team Toro Rosso united to launch the limited-edition EQB-500DB, a modern watch taking inspiration from motorsports concepts.

In collaboration with creative agency Shine, Berry Place produced premium packaging in time for the official launch at precisely 13:00pm BST on Sunday 19th June 2016, more memorably, Father’s Day.

Franz Tost, Team Principal of Scuderia Toro Rosso said “We’re delighted to celebrate our partnership with Casio Edifice in such a creative way. It’s fantastic to see this project coming together and the perfectly designed EQB-500DB encased within the carbon fibre of our factory. A perfect way to celebrate both Father’s Day and the European Grand Prix in Baku.”

The carbon fibre used by Berry Place to create the boxes was supplied by Toro Rosso, adding a truly authentic touch to the packaging. Branding details were then applied by laser-etching onto the lid panel.

Casio's UK Head of Marketing Tim Gould said: "We are thrilled that we can bring together the style and precision of both the motorsports environment and the EQB-500DB watch through the creation of these limited edition cases.”

Truly the ultimate Father’s Day gift for any racing enthusiast!

Debenhams Muse Display

As part of a recent in-store point-of-sale display at Debenhams, Berry Place created a second factice for a new product in Mugler’s Angel fragrance range – Muse.

Each side of the factice was machined in two parts and the outer shell vacuum-metalised silver; the acrylic core was then polished and tinted to give the illusion of being filled with perfume.
