New Blades 2012

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the New Blades show, organised by 4D Modelshop. 100 talented graduates  came from Arts University College, University of Hertfordshire, University for the Creative Arts and University of Bolton to Holborn Studios in London to exhibit their work to a range of potential employers.

Sadly this was the last show for the Rochester University of Creative Arts model making course which ends this summer. The course has been running for five decades, supplying graduates to us as far back as we can remember. Andy Stead, the UCA course leader pointed towards the market place as a "far tougher place now than it used to be in the 1960s both educationally, economically and within the industry," yet he suggested "the students entering the industry still have the opportunity to work alongside the best architects, industrial designers and filmmakers this country has to offer - some of whom have even started rival courses of their own."

Berry Place will be holding two recruitment days - Friday 29th and Friday 6th July. Many have already registered but please email jack@berryplace.co.uk if you would like to come and show us your portfolio.

Berry Place would like to congratulate Danielle Spinks for winning Best in Show at New Blades 2012.

Design Week Awards 2012

As proud sponsors of the Design Week Awards 2012, Berry Place would like to congratulate every nominee and winner from each category and send a massive thank you to the team who organised such a wonderful event! The carnival-themed, black-tie party, held at the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) included a funfair with Ferris Wheel and Bumper Cars - of course, we had a blast!
It was great to see the bespoke awards that we built and designed for Design Week being handed out - by none other than Blur bassist and cheese-creator, Alex James. What a night!

Berry Place completes The Three Peaks Challenge 2012

Team BP is proud to have taken part in one of the most gruelling endurance challenges out there, overcoming sleep deprivation, inclement weather and sore feet to try and climb the 3 highest mountains in the UK within 24 hours.

We would like to thank everyone who supported us for their very kind donations which helped us exceeded our target of £2000 for Action Medical Research.

Special thanks go to our driver Jack, who safely chauffeured the team 500miles across the UK at ungodly hours on treacherous country roads, and who was of course gutted he couldn’t climb as well.

With legs aching and Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon under our belt we invite suggestions on next year's challenge - what could we do? Join us on Facebook and send us your thoughts!

Dom Pérignon 'crown' on display at Harrods in celebration of the Queen's Jubilee

To celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Harrods are showcasing 35 crowns in the Brompton Road windows, each one designed for a luxury brand.

Creative agency Chic approached Berry Place to build the prestigious Dom Pérignon crown - the only champagne brand to be given the honour of a display.

The crown, made out of approximately seven kilograms of glass, drew upon the expertise and materials of Peter Layton's London Glass-Blowing Studio as well as three experienced Berry Place modelmakers and the whole piece took just 5 weeks to build and deliver.

All elements of the crown pay tribute to the design of the bottle - the cushion is constructed out of cork, the crown is colour-matched glass and the foil closure is identical to the original bottles. The one-of-a-kind model even appears to fizz by a clever internal lighting system constructed in-house at Berry Place.

3 Peaks Training - The South Downs

In preparation for walking the Three Peaks Challenge in June, Berry Place travelled to the South Downs at the weekend for some much needed hiking practice.

Heading off from Birling Gap near Beachy Head, the team completed an 8 mile circuit of the Seven Sisters Country Park, Friston Forest and East Dean, before stopping to recover some lost calories at the local inn.

Everyone’s legs agreed a little further endurance training may be required.

So far Berry Place have raised 11% of the £2000+ target with only 3 months to go before tackling the combined 9000ft of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

Please give as much as you can, every little helps, and all donations will aid Action Medical research in keeping babies and children healthy across the UK.
